Cosmetically those drivers in post #1 look interesting but without any specs theres a very good chance they would not be right for your application. Unless you intend to measure everything yourself including frequency response it will likely be a waste of money. To make a 4 ohm speaker like that you will have to use 2 8 ohm woofers and run them in parallel. Your tweeters wouldn't matter as much as you will be able to change that through the use of an L-pad. |

ok,
is there anyway to make a 4 ohm speaker into 8 ohms for my amp. if not, would i be able to drive a 4ohm speaker with a philips mx5700d dvd home cinema amplifier. also what is 100w at 1khz??? does that mean it can only put out 100w rms to 1 khz frequency the power drops??? its a class d amplifier. |

also you recommended those bush bookshelf speakers from richer sounds.
How does the acoustic solutions av20 from argos at 20 pounds compare with the bush ones? they have VERY similar specs. |

I understand where your coming from. I bugged people on forums like these plenty trying to get someone to make my creative yet terrible idea to somehow work. I made my own frankenspeaker and then i moved a month ago and my speakers i just buit sounded 10 times better for eaquil cost.
You can change between 4 ohm and 8 by wiring 2 identical speakers in parallel or series depending what direction you want to go. this is crude and pays no attention to power handling or sq but it will do what you want i believe, it will make them significantly louder or quieter as a side effect too. If I where you though, I would spend more time on looking at drivers zaphs hi-vi solution on his webpg is very cheap and i dont think you will get a better sounding speaker for the price. if you want the wedge shape, like one navin said, you could double up zaphs hivi satellites and put them on a steep angle so that one side acts as side channels, and one side acts as rear bouncing off a wall behind you. most importantly, do allot of reading on here, im no good at this stuff so I busted my butt reading every snippit of wisdom that flies around here.

Thanks for the reply mate, much appreciated.
Im going to scrap making the speaker and just buy a nice pair of bookshelves, then if i feel crazy enough ill cut them diagonally and stick them together to make that dipole ive been wanting. lol but for now thanks, i think my amp will get along fine with the new speakers i buy. cheers mate lions_gym |
