A straight quarter wave pvc pipe for this woofer would be about 8' long. I'm wondering if a spiral horn would be a way to maintain the low frequency response in significantly less space, or if it will muddy a low distortion woofer (usher 8945).
Here are the specs: Fs=35Hz Qts=.309 Qes=.366 Qms=1.9 Vas=34L Mids and tweeter are OB, just using the usher to ~2K Hz. Has anyone tried a spiral horn in a similar situation? Thanks |

Like a Horn or the BR design from japan, using an increasing horn within the port?

yes - that's the one
http://www3.ocn.ne.jp/~hanbei/eng-rear.html Although I was wondering... could you essentially reverse the design to put a TL taper in a pipe? Different question though. |

Ang,
just get yourself MJKs worksheets or AJHorn (preferably both) and start playing. Since progs like these have become affordable the impossible has got into reach. The only drawback with these spiral contraptions IMO: they will more or less behave like an unfolded pipe, as you don't have 90° or 180° bends to attenuate unwanted midrange smut. Just my 2c Pit |

Hi Pit,
Thanks - didn't know the bends were actually useful for something. Am getting the MJK sheets and will post how well they fit. |
