Default New eton drivers... need info.

Hi,

I emailed eton and they said that they have 2 new drivers coming out in May or end of April. Does anyone have more information on what size drivers they will be and if they updated the motor design etc? Any more info would be great. There was some info in the German magazines, but I haven't seen it in Klang and Ton.

Thanks
Jed

I called Madisound and emailed Eton. I was interested in Neodymium woofers from Eton and both sources indicated that the new products would be using standard ferrite motors.

Do you know the diameters of the 2 new drivers and official release date?

I didn't ask Eton. I specifically contacted them to find out if the neodymium motors would be used in the new products because Madisound was tight lipped about what was new. Madisound indicated that the drivers would be out in the Spring and that they expected them sometime between Spring and Fall. How's that for, "Um, gee, were not really sure?"

Thanks Chris, I too got the same vague answer from madisound, "nothing is ready yet," was the reply. Eton told me 2 new drivers but didn't specify, and they said march/april release which I can't confirm. I sent another email to Eton to get more info and nothing has come back. I was thinking of buying some 11-581s, but will wait if a new long throw version is coming out with a better motor and basket design. I'm not so in need of neodymium if they do things better or like a Scanspeak motor. Love the Eton cone, just wish they would give us the best of both worlds.

In the past I have used the 4" and the 11". I think they are fantastic sounding drivers. They offer IMO the best of both worlds as far as transparency (detail) and smoothness are concerned. I wanted neodymium as a 'shielded' or low flux leakage option in a speaker, but it looks like only Avalon Acoustics is privy to these motors.

Peace,

Thanks for the responses Chris and I agree on all points about eton 4-300 which is my favorite mid right now. I haven't tried the 11" but I have experience with 8-472 which is also very nice.

Anyone else have any info on the new eton drivers? Madisound responded again that eton doesn't have anything ready/made yet. Period.

But I know it is coming because there was a blurb somewhere in HobbyHifi.

Could someone find it and let us know the info?

Thanks!
Jed

I have used the 8-800/37HEX and it does sound great but I am not impressed with how sloppy the coating was applied. Very poor quality control for such a respected manufacturer.

Were you denied a return? I've purchased 2 dozen etons of the years and never noticed that problem, but you have to be careful with the plastic bag they put around the drivers, since it sometimes sticks to the coating and causes imperfections.
