Hi,

I think the RS2's were sealed.

Bass driver was an Audax bextrene, likely the c/o will not suit a
modern driver, as most bextrenes have a mid peak that the c/o
needs to suppress.

Can't think of a suitable 8" for 20L sealed offhand most 8" will
not suit. Personally I'd sell the T27's and go with a new baffle.

Then go with 6.5" / 1" tweeter, lots of choice, possibly ported.

Default I think your right

Yes it is a sealed cabinet and I have been running the specs for seas, vifa, pioneer, dayton and they all roll off under a 80 fast. something like 8 to 10 db down at 50hz

This cabinet is well made and has a scewed in front baffle, hard to believe they did that on such a small cabinet, but then again these were $700 back in 1980. I think I might take your sugestion and make a new baffle and go with a 6.5" woofer.

Any recomondations. and why do you say get rid of the Kef tweeter, I'm hoping to use the exsisting x-over.

Thanks
Bob

I would go to their homepage and choose a driver from there (Audax).
They seem to be very high quality, I don't know why you don't like, is it for power?

If not, write them and I am sure they will give you a substitute. Unless you can't get them in the US, that's another story. Keep us posted. Also the exact measure of the outside of the rim around the woofer (diam.) so that a new one will not hang loose, even that is not a problem. I don't know if they are T/S paremeters for the tweeter but unless they aren't (I would keep it or not) that would be another decision. If you end up with a ported driver you can always port the cabinet, no? Can you read components in the xover? to adjust a future one and design the one you have to show us? Please give us some more details, and where you want to go. 'Hope this help's.

Default The history, What and why

I had these speakers since my father was the US rep back in the 80's. They were siiting in the basement for years. one of the speakers was missing the woofer and my father stuck a misson 70 woofer in their and thats the story of these RS2's.

As I said the cabinets are mint and all the drives and crossoevrs work except the missing woofer. One of the problems of any replacement is the woofer is countersunk and has those triangle mounting tabs as part of the woofer frame. Any replacement drivers would require routing.

I remember these speakers when I was young my father had them hooked up to a Mcintosh MC2205 amp and man can they suck up the power. They had a very non fatigue full range sound. Spacial and acurate bass

I have all kind of amps so efficiency is not an issue. I would love to find the original woofer, but barring any miracle I just figure DIY time again.

So again all sugestions are welcome I woudl prefer to keep the stock x-over and tweeter. The cabinet dimetions are about
14" high 10'' wide and 11" deep

Thanks

you simply won't be able to if you want "decent" sound quality. You would need a driver wich has same sensivity, decent bass extension, and same FR irregularities. Given the original is an old audax bextrene driver, and those have a very "special" FR, if you put another driver without replacing the crossover it's gonna suck.
