Default Behringer DCX2496 vs. MiniDSP 2x8

Has anyone done a direct comparison of the Behringer DCX2496 vs. MiniDSP 2x8 ??? They're about the same $$$; the 2496 claims lower noise.

Are you only interested in the noise? They are quite different in functionality.

Default If you figure out what to use let me know.

I'm wanting to setup an active system at home. I want to use 4 drivers per channel for a stereo setup. So 8 drivers total.

It would appear the 2496 is two channels short. But I'm wary of using a computer based system, unless of course it only uses the computer to set the parameters and then the minidsp unit has its own internal memory to implement these crossovers sans computer. I doubt it.

I own the older generation of the dcx2496 and the latest minidsp 2*4hd, the latter wins hands down.

Hmmm....interesting...exactly HOW does it win "hands down"? What is better?

Better clarity and definition and dynamic range, these are based on my subjective evaluations and can vary from person to person based personal taste. They are not based on technical evaluations.

Does the mini-dsp contain it's own memory and filtering capabilities? Or does a computer need to be running the entire time?

From the mini-DSP's manual:
Quote:
With your miniDSP processor configured, you can continue to operate in offline mode—that is,
without the computer connected. To do so, simply disconnect the USB cable. The processor
“remembers” the configuration last set, and will continue to operate without the computer.
