DAC output filter...passive or active?

in miniDSP (2x4) board, what is the configuration of DAC output filter? passive or active ?

curryman 8th June 2012 01:11 PM

2x4 unbalanced is passive!

2x4 balanced may be active, since it has opamp at the outputs for balancing the signal. But the actual filter may be passive too

by sound quality point of view, will active make any difference?

curryman 14th June 2012 09:44 AM

not necessarily ;-) It depends on the actual implementation.

The passive version used on the miniDSP unbalanced works fine ;)

to improve sound quality what mods can be done to existing DAC passive out ckt on miniDSP? if miniDSP is following exact ckt as in ADAU1701 datasheet i wonder if sound can be improved by replacing some components.
