Default Alpair7 + Pencil`s stuffing inside

Hi,

Please share your experience with stuffing the pencil boxes.

1) Which materials is better - acoustic foam or polly fill?

2) Is it good to use both, like in the picture ?

3) In which place it should be layed out? Where is the critical areas?

4) How amount of filling changes the sound?

5) Which type and size wire could you reccomend for connecting speaker to terminal?

Many thanks

Poly fill- I ended up with rather less than Scott's originally recommended amount ( sorry, I've built several dozen pairs of various designs since those, and can't remember the exact final amount) - I'd trash the foam altogether if I was you

Slightly less dense immediately behind the driver, otherwise my own were fairly even density through out the line.

As for wire, that could start the whole "best?" conversation all over again - my own opinion is that since depending on where you place your input terminals, the internal length of wire could be less than a foot, it hardly matters. Just use the same type and length in each enclosure of course, and I prefer to solder, so something small enough gauge to fold through the small hole on the speaker's terminal.

I have read the foam has some value at higher frequencies that are at issue in quarter-wave pipes, but basically it is useless. Sheep's wool is purported to be the best thing since sliced bread, but does have its own set of problems. Fiberglass is the best material I have found that is readily available. A roll of R-12 will do several speakers.

No, you won't get cancer for the minuscule amount that might escape through the port. You might get silicosis (what killed the Egyptian pharaohs), but that's a stretch.
