Default Torx Head Screws

As I went to install my new A10P's, I reached for the 1/8" Allen wrench that I have used in the past to tighten the screws and lo! The screw heads are now Torx T15. Not a big deal, as I have a set of Torx screwdrivers. Any reason for changing the screw heads? Inquisitive people what to know.

No, No! The screws supplied with the drivers. Trust me, they are T15. I use Robertson head drywall screws for just about everything, but I think that #6x1" drywall screws look a bit tacky for driver mounting.

Bob,
We understand that. I thought they were a reminder that you needed screws to mount the driver and the head size and colour should be similar to what was in the box. The length and width were up to you.

The story goes, the Torx was developed by GM & was used to secure head-lamp assemblies making it 'impossible' for consumers to readily change out headlamps by themselves. ..........or so the story goes. Witness the "new" three-bladed screws and the "one-way" screws........so the handyman in all of us can't open it up to do the "un-authorized" servicing.

Every screw head has its place. Every one has its + and - . In the Tour de France of screws, Robertson takes the yellow jersey. We can argue if you like...

That and the fact that a Torx driver will not cam out of the head under heavy torque. Of course neither will a Robertson. Henry Ford (that Henry Ford wanted to use Robertson screws on his assembly line, but a patent battle pretty much kept Robertson screws out of the U.S. until rather recently. A couple of years ago, I went on a quest for a R2 screw driver. Never found one. But R2 bits with a 1/4" hex on the other end are available by the handful for power drivers.
Anyway, I do have a T15 screwdriver.

yep Phillips was the answer to the cam out problem with the robby's in the early days

Air pressure regulated and electric clutch systems made the Robertson better but Phillips was American and too well established to consider alternatives.

Torx? not sure, I haven't read up on that. Tremendous surface contact but serious limitations if you are stuck in the woods with a swiss army knife.

Robertson tips are the best at sticking in the fastener. They are for squares, and have been superseded. JMO, YMMV.
