Before obtaining remasters and/or tossing old CDs, I always check the Dynamic Range Database first. More often than not, the old CDs have better DR than the remasters. There have been some exceptions, of course, but I find I usually prefer more DR, not less.

DR Database

Do a search based on artist and album.

You can also download the software (or Foobar2000 module) to test your own digital files, if you like.

Here is a good example. All the versions one might think should sound better, are far worse.

I tried mine. They sounded great, but you will of course need to cross them over and add bass support. I tried them with a pair of Eminence Beta 15.

I only made a tryout-baffle, but they played really well. A single Beta 15 would've sufficed as well. In the end they were a bit big and I chose another path. Should I go "OB" another time with Alpairs I would choose the 7.3 and make them smaller.

I wouldn't use a tweeter. But that's just me and I'm an old man.
