Wall damping in pensils?

Have looked through treads but did not find much about wall damping materials in pensils. In one place I read against foam but what about felt and bitumen applied on the walls (and if, where)?

We put 1/2" cotton felt on the walls near the driver to reduce reflection, but otherwise just used polyfluff.

Bituminum is intended to damp the cabinet walls that are ringing, its use is counter to my box philosophy, i just add lots of bracing, and other tricks to keep the walls from resonating in the 1st place.
