Understand that this is a proto, and also my understanding on this is far from mature, but looking at the FR chart shows much lower SPLs in bass and mid bass regions - this is something you plan to overcome? I have attcahed a snap of the A10.2 FR curve for comparison.

It looks more like a traditional FR chart to me. The rising HF response will work in your favor for off axis listening.

I was going to ask Mark the real question here. What baffle/box are you using for your test data?

Hi Guys,
The graph had to be converted from a 120dB to 110dB scale, the RAW data line is set slightly low ( I err on the side of caution). The data set is separately generated and is accurate.

I won't be changing the design concept of the power-train. My tradecraft is rising output in the lows (BSC assist), backed-off mids (shout reduction) and rising highs (choose your on-off axis position and/or filter to taste). This recipe's pleases many and has been in use for a long time.

I'll continue Alp12 metal and paper cone driver R&D work when I get back from Australia and New Zealand, starting just after Chinese New Year celebrations.

Cheers
Mark.

I'm sure I missed it somewhere but is there a possibility of the paper cones drivers being able to be used in current config'd cabs? I'd love to try out the new ones in my existing SuperPensil12's that took me way too long to build.

Given the level of change, and of the desire to give them a more usable range of parameters i'd guess not. On the other hand, with the latitude of ML-TLs in general, and the direction they are going so far, your Super Pensils could well be one of the old boxes they would be happy with

Cool thanks Dave. I guess we'll all just have to wait for the final versions to come out and we can see. It'll be fun to try and do some back to back comparisons.

Hi Guys,
Here's a pic of the Alpair 12 Metal cone's new experimental Nomex coil. Its an interesting production challenge as its the lowest mass unit we've ever produced for a driver of this size.

There are 2 versions in the pic, 1 uses a solid copper winding, the other is CCAW.

Cheers
Mark.

I'm still learning using the Small equations. But I did some sims with your latest specs. As some one else said Qms is way high and it seems to eliminate the chance of making a true bookshelf speaker. I really liked the aesthetics of Morgan Jones's Arpeggio and was hoping to duplicate something similar with a better driver. Qms on latest version of the 12 seems to eliminate that. Am hoping things moderate somewhat on that front as development continues.
thanks.

I did some further sims and realized I could work around the high Qms. I would just have to lower the output impedance of the amp to probably 4 ohms. Of course that would be a problem I guess if you already have a low power amp with no speaker tap lower than 8 ohms.
