This is what I am wondering. The F3 in a BR is outstanding (in the low 40s) but the qts and FS are quite high, so I'm not sure how suited it is to a TL.

I do not see any problem in tuning below fs, especially with a high qt driver this is quite common. I have made a few TLs this way (e.g. my desktop TL for the Alpair5 and the one for the EL70) and both have a nice low end, not boomy or 'out of breath'. of course dynamics and max volume are limited with such small drivers at low frequencies, even a good TL cannot change the laws of physics if you want that, add a large woofer

Thanks! will experiment with some simple mdf cabs first I think. Tuning just above fs supposedly adds control over the driver (xmax etc) so I might take a conservative approach first

but under the tuning freq the driver excursion will go up, just like in a BR box, so keep that in mind when tuning. or apply a "subsonic" filter to keep the lowest frequencies away.

I think I will go slightly below, around 55/60 hz which i think is just under 5 foot slightly tapered. The driver will be 1/3 down the line so I will place stuffing at the beginning and a little at the end near the opening.

Kyle,

Is the Cowichan in your moniker, the Cowichan just north of here?

If yes, and you want a set of CHR, i can almost certainly save you some shipping (and delivery time) if you get me to add a pair to my order for you -- i'm not ordering any for myself, but have 60 other MA drivers on order. Typically Madisound gets them out FedEx the day after they arrive there.

Be a good excuse to drive down and visit the loudspeaker lab

Mark,

Is Madisound going to carry the CHP-70 GEN 2?

Jeff
