Does the latest alpair 6 not come in the gold finish?

Yes, the Alp 6M is gold (no grey this time - see Alp6P).

From my memory, pics are already on this thread.
Here they are again:

Merry Christmas

Mark.

The 2 Mark's may have to meet after Christmas day unless Mark L want to chase Mark M to Australia. I've a trade show and a dealer to visit. Need 48 hours in the day!

Merry Christmas

Mark

Great, because I want to match it with the CSS SDX7

2 Questions- I noticed the dust cap is different ie it has what I call the 'smartie' dust cap, not the 'cone' shape. Why is that?

And the other question is - if I use two Alpairs per channel with the SDX7, what would the power handling be, roughly? I'm thinking to x/o at around 200 hz(1st order?).

Cheers and merry christmas to you.

Nope! I'll be in China for my X'mas.
I like the A6 & A6.2 which I'm listening.
I'm planning for a floor stand. Most likely it'll be an A7. The A10 may be too "big" for a 10'Wx8' living room. (Typical HK Size)
So, I would like to listen to Tony's Pensil7 first.
An early Merry X'max to all.

The "Smartie" cap is a "U" cap design that I originally deployed on the first batch of Alpair 7. I've further developed this profile for other drivers in the Alpair range. This design is directly mounted onto the top of the coil body. The cap enabled closer tolerance control on fixings points for cone to coil and cap to coil, also de-restricting the cone from mounting the cap. The U cap is smaller than the old design, lowering the mass of the power-train.

2 X Alp6 wired in series should give you a similar (from memory) impedance to the SDX7. The power handling of 2 X Alp6's in series should make them close to the SDX 7, maybe a little extra resistance in the Alp + feed might be needed.

My suggestion for experimentation: Mount the Alps as close together as possible. Put them is a separate chamber to isolate them from the SDX's back-wave. Sealed chamber volume of 2 litres per driver could be nice. Let them go full-range, just control the SDX7 with a decent low DCR inductor.

Mark.

Hi Mark,
I'll be back from Auss on 24th Dec. and back to the office on the 27th. I'll be in China during the week only for a day, so there's time from 27th to 31st if you're back from the Mainland - let me know.
Cheers
Mark.

Thanks very much. This is the ideal scenario.
Was going to mount the 2 FR's in a cab with 2 chambers above a separate enclosure for the SDX7.

Inductors- no idea the value but will work it out.
