Having simmed some of Mark's BR designs i would guess that it would fall in his (and many others) comfort zone.

Do keep in mind that i am very picky, generally not a big BR fan, and all my designs target a very specific shape of curve* and then further mutate the response further by using ports that push the ports into a state that standard wisdom say should be avoided. This has proven time after time to give a finese to the bass that most BR miss.

*(all those alignment type checkboxes are an onselte artifact when calcs were done with pencil on paper & filter shapes of already well-know characters were the target)

As Olson said: "the ear is the final arbiter".

I am an amp man and not a speaker man.
So if Mark has an idea which is easy to test, then we are happy to oblige.

In any case we are still very happy with our AP6.1M, as "kitchen radio set".

Based on differences between A10 & A10.2 i expect A6M to, at a minimum -- have better downward dynamic range and a better top in end . I think you'll like them.

Hi Patrick,
Apologies, from my memory (bearing in mind I'm no longer a young fella) I thought your cab Vol was around 4 litres. Your's and Dave's sims still look makable for 6M in 6.3 litres. Given the relative easy power-train compliance and long'ish excursion of both drivers, I'd say its best to use the sims as starting guides rather than absolute design tools and experiment.

I think MarkL still has cabs in HK? I'd love to hear them in the Chai Wan studio. We can switch the drivers and listen, he can report back to this thread and then possibly send the 6M's onwards?

I've been using those little 3.6L black BR boxes (do you remember them?) in the Chai Wan studio, swopping 6P and 6M regularly. The 6M does sound the more "bass rich" of the drivers in this size. This leads me to suspect the sims may not always accurate predict driver behaviour.

It was my intension to lower the total Q and Fo on the 6M making it more desirable for desk-top and near-field use, where smaller volumes are desired. But it won't surprise me to see 6M in bigger boxes as many DIY folks extract excellent results from Alpairs and CHR's with nice box designs.

Cheers

Mark.

MarkL still has cabs in HK, but you also have one, our very first.
Anyhow, MarkL will bring a pair to you soon.

It is also not totally impossible to reduce volume.
But let's see first.

Can't wait to see your test results,
Patrick

PS Will see Jan on 25 Nov.

the 6.3 liter with the 150mm port (Dave's sim) looks like a pleasant sounding bass, this "droop" below 100Hz usually sounds OK (as it is in e.g. my Black Beauty and it is in the Alpair6 Needle)

Hi B,
Yes, something like a ported/vented 3.5 litre box would do a nice job, mini-TL etc. etc. You've got the idea.....

Cheers
