It could be also interesting for me and for others to take a look of the Planet10's optional braces...

Default stuffing ?

Hi Gazza,

I got Alpair 7 from CSS and got the MDF sheet cut according to the plans posted by you. Still glueing the pieces and post the pictures later. But I have questions regarding stuffing? What material you've used for stuffing and how much stuffing is needed.

Thanks,
Routhun

I just used a regular polyester upholstery material... white fluffy stuff. I even weighed it to the design spec.

Don't forget to break in the drivers as recommended once built.

I look forward to pictures.

You know the 7's are a whicked driver when they can replace some Quads which is 1 of the few great great legandary commercial speakers well great great speakers all together.Kudos im sold on the alpair 7's the 10.2s are still in the running tho and maybe El70's in a microtower but the Pensils with the 7's seem ultra hard to beat.

Did the 7's throw a wider stage than the Quads? Would appreciate the improvements the 7's had over the Quads....am still saving up for the 7's. Thanks!

For me they throw a more 3d image than the esl57, but the room may be the factor.

Hi all.
I got mine Alpair 7's 3 days ago. They have 40+ hours of running in. Initial impression are positive. I just cant wait to put them in their Pencils. However, i must say that they sound to me too much laid back, with not so deep soundstage (ofc, they were not in position showed on picture bellow ). Maybe, the reason for this is that i have used to a little more forward sound.
I was wondering will my gainclone with lm1876 be adequate mate with A7 ?
There will be much more testing in the next few days, and i will be trying them with the some class A amps and some nice dac-s like buffalo II. Will report my impressions.

Looking at the pencil plans, it seems to me that the driver position is to low. I think that the optimum(ear level) height would be around 900mm, but in pencil´s is 720mm.
Is there an explanation why is driver position on front baffle so low ?

From what studies have been done average ears off the ground is more like 830mm.

The driver is offset to kill one of the unwanted pipe resonances.

You can put them on short stands (or extend the sides downward) or put something under the front to tip them back a bit if you find the driver position too low.
