And more thing I discovered with the using of Pencil 7, when I playing Vinyl with Fostex, every disc is fine, but now I can hear the inner groove distortion easily, so I'm less enjoyed with my vinyl and playing digital source 99% of time...

Hercules, yes it is less enjoyable when you hear the "inner groove distortion".

Hi Hercules,
Doesn't surprise me. The Alp7 is high F range capable so you might want to experiment with the cartridge set up. As said many times, Alps cone's are high miro-resonance sensitive so don't take source prisoners. If the source isn't close to 100%, you'll hear it.

Cheers

Mark.

My Pencil 7 update... several months now and well broken in. My reference speaker is the Quad ESL57. Back to back against these the Pencil 7 has a VERY similar sound, the main difference being slightly more "body" in the Pencil 7s. My sources are both digital and analogue (Linn based vinyl). The Pencils have in fact replaced the Quads for most of my listening for the past month. They can produce a surprising amount of low frequency energy when they are called upon. The damped plywood boxes I built seem low in vibration when the music is playing, and the rear vents don't seem to have had any negative effect.

Congratulations to Mark on these wonderful drivers, and kudos to Scott for the enclosure design.

HI Gazzagazza,

Thanks for the plans you have posted for this pencil 7. Your plans doesn't have cut outs for internal bracing, do we really need internal wood braces with several circular cutouts as was given in original pencil designs?

Thanks,
Routhun

Braces are optional.

My Pensil 7s have them

No braces in mine... but as mentioned, I did damp the walls with a bituminous / felt addition.

Good to know, I have very limited building skills and want to eliminate all the optional stuff.

Thanks,
Routhun

gazza,

Could you attach plans/photos of your Pensil cabs and specifcally of the bituminous / felt addition applied? Have you done any comparison how the cabs perform with or without them?
It could be also interesting for me and for others to take a look of the Planet10's optional braces...
