Hi Andrew,
I have some sympathy with your thinking. The demand for increased bandwidth is ever present within the audio speaker industry. It is technically very challenging to extend band-width.

I could have an easier life in terms of technical and production factors but I'd be no different from mainstream makers. My competitive position might suffer if I stayed in the 1-kHz to 20-kHz range.

Cheers,

Mark.

manies open bafflers would like an affordable tweeter that can handle without struggle a low xo point like the around 1250 of Linkwitz's Orion...

Mark's proto 6.5" Woofer, 1" silk Tweet combo

These are one of the nicest looking Drivers! And they are beautiful together

but you could use better Font for the ML "Logo" on the tweeters

Once these are complete would it be possible to get it without the "ML" logo at all, or at least with it merely embossed in the black plastic? One of the things I love about your speakers, Mark, is of course the sleek designs. The tweeters have a nice minimalistic look to them and if they sound quite I could see them being used in a lot of places other than simply mated with the woofer6, hidden behind some grill cloth.

Hi,

Mark Am from India,One of my friend had met you in one of the expo's and handed me the product catalog ! but FR was not much of the thing so said to skip !

Now that I see you into multiway drivers I'll be very much interested in the 6.5" driver !!

Also whats the deal on the No1 (blue with Alu faceplate and phaseplug) ?? are you producing them or was it just a sample ? what's the spec and price ? kindly post the details !

Regards.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Here's the latest data for the 6.5" woof. Further experimentation with the coil (now 4 layers) has delivered more controlled damping. I'm pleased thus far, as the power handling on the long test has improved. Being conservative, I'm now more happy with the driver on the 100 hour test. Conservatively, this driver should comfortably rate to 35 watts cont. I'm not into building high power units so look elsewhere if you want a big noise.

I'm more concerned with keeping the flatter response up to 5-kHz married with damping characteristics that maintain high levels of mechanical linearity. I want this driver to be musical all the way down past 40-Hz. The cone remains low mass. Its capable of delivering micro-resonance throughout its working range, so expect dynamics similar to those of the CHR-70 between 40 to 5-kHz. Those DIYer's that know my work may recognise my trade-mark tweaks.

Please guys, remember I'm showing you RAW un-smoothed data.

With the lower Qts of 0.442, this driver should work well in more average sized boxes. I'd suggest crossing around 4-kHz with my Tweeter No.3 but its open to designers choice.

Revc= 7.000 Ohm
Fo= 35.391 Hz
Sd= 12.668 K mm
Vas= 25.737 Ltr
Cms= 1.129m M/N
Mmd= 17.086 g
Mms= 17.906 g
BL= 7.093 Tm
Qms= 2.183
Qes= 0.554
Qts= 0.442
Levc= 619.309u H
No= 0.199 %
SPLo= 86.010 dB

Season's cheers

Mark.

Hi SoundsGreat,
I take it that you're not into full range. So, please take a look at the latest data.
Yes, the blue tweeter, I'm still thinking on that project. It's a more expensive undertaking. I'll possibly wait until the world economy improves. Now is the time for for moderate priced drivers. Although I'll continue to work on the Alpair series (can't resist building full rangers)

Cheers

Mark.
