If you have any influential contacts at those mags, please convince them to publish in English, too. We are really missing out.

in Holland we only have the Elektor magazine, which occasionally does something on loudspeakers (and has the annual Audio special)

Hey everyone!

I'm planning to build the Speaker Kit which BluePlanet released. Unfortunately I coulden't find the final TSP of the Woofer.

I want to build an closed enclosure for it and don't really know how to dimension the volume of the cabinets, yet.

I found some data on the website of the seller and those, which were missing, I gathered from this thread.
WinISD(beta!) suggests an approx. 16l closed cabinet, providing a -3db point arround 70hz. The speakers will be crossed at 80hz, 12db/octave, supported by two subwoofers.

It would be awesome, if someone is able to confirm my calculations or correct them!

Greetings from Germany

Alex

Hey Dave,

I guess u simulated with the final TSP of the speaker?!
However, it seems that my suggested 16l weren't wrong but the -3db point is another as I simulated with a Fs of 40hz...

Actually, I'am in favour of a lower box resonance.

Thank you very much Dave!

Greetings

Being a full range driver enthusiest, I cannot fathom the idea of a non-time aligned 6db crossover 2 way. Thiel, Vandersteen, Green Mountain Audio, those work well to our ears on this forum. But not the coaxial ones either unless it is 6db crossover and has a nice triangular step response. I think Thiel's scs4 is the right way to do a coaxial (unlike their earlier coaxials). They say they are now 6db but I can't find a step response graph for it anywhere.

I've always felt 24db slope doesn't do voice like a 6db or full range driver can. 24db is supposed to be time aligned. Well it is, but only at the crossover point. The phase is off for 2 octaves on each side of the crossover point (as the phase is heading back to zero).

Norman
