Hi Guys,
A very interesting build from Woodwill in Japan. High end cabinet designer of long standing. Here's the site link: http://www.lcv.ne.jp/~woodwill/alpair10-5-2Way.html Cheers M

Regarding the crossover, what was encapsulated in resin?

How can I marry Markaudio Alpair 10 Grey woofer with Markaudio Alpair ? Any crossover neccessary? on MA-Homepage I can read: "The Alpair 5 is a perfect partner to our Alpair 10 Bass Wide and Alpair 10 Full Range drivers." But no further information. : (

Dang, look at the piano finish on those. That takes a lot of surface prep and some serious work getting the finish rubbed out. Nice.

in the latest Hobby Hifi (a german DIY magazine) there is also a design with the Alpair5 (grey) and the Alpair10 bass in a compact 2way.

Well, you could run both of them sans filters, but it wouldn't be a very clever idea. Where & how you cross is up to you depending on your particular requirements.

Got the new HH because i'm very interested in Mark Audio speakers and plan to build one in the next few months but i find the filter a bit complex for what is supposed to be a minimalistic design, that's what got me interested in full range in the first place. 19 parts and than 3 more for optional impedances compensation is a lot of components costing more than 100 euro's per loudspeaker.

IMHO it is not the best way to combine a 5 & a 10. If I were to use combine full range to a 2-way (i.e. I would not want to use the AP10 bass but AP10 full range, or even AP12), I would want to take advantage of the large overlap in the freq spectrum of the two, and use 1st order X'over to retain phase and amplitude coherence. I also would not want to use the 5 as the main speaker, but rather only for the top part of the spectrum. So I would consider crossing at say 2-3 kHz.
Any other opinions ? Patrick PS A lot of the complexity of the HH X'over is due to the fact that he likes using notches to suppress local resonances. You can decide for yourself whether that is really necessarily, especially when the resonances are relatively narrow. And the link to HH: http://www.hobbyhifi.de/Aktuell/Aktu...e_ausgabe.html . |
