Hi Mike,
Glad the drivers arrived OK. You may have the first generation CHR drivers. There's some technical and performance differences between the first and second generation CHR-70 drivers. As this thread is made for information exchange on the second generation, please make use the main application thread: Mark Audio CHR-70 Application Thread We are gradually up-grading our website. This webpage may useful for DIYers who want to know more about the differences between the model generations. CHR-70 Full Range Audio Driver (Nov 2009 Revision) | Markaudio If you want to also post on this thread, please remind folks which generation of driver model you have. This helps to avoid any confusion. Many thanks and Merry Christmas Mark. |

Hi Mike,
Yes, the first generation don't have screws inside the box. Also, the gold and grey colours are darker than the second generation. I'll try to find time over the Christmas break to post a pic showing the visual differences. Cheers Mark. |

hello Mark,
I´m planning to built speakers with the new CHR-70. Blue Planet Acoustic in Germany has a construction based on the popular "needle" Needle DeLuxe - Lautsprecher Selbstbau by blue planet acoustic and those who built this version are very happy. Nevertheless I like the Pensil design very much. If you know their version - which are the differences between the Pensil and the Needle de Luxe? Which is the better speaker in your opinion? Kindly regards and best wishes for the new year Jörg |

Do you have a link that takes one to plans for the Needle Deluxe?
I have plans for the new Pensil for the revised CHR-70. Just OKed by Scott, need to just tidy them up a bit. dave

I'm not sure where you are getting that from... it starts falling off above 20 kHz (the graphs go to 30k). I've seen 1" dome tweeters without as extended or as smooth on-axis response. Now it is true that on-axis response tells us only about the on-axis performance, and little about the overall driver performance. dave

And just to point out (again) that like is not being compared with like. The MK1 CHR70 response graph has considerably more smoothing applied.

Looks like a pretty standard, guess & by golly, Voigt pipe. I don't trust those until i've seen what they model like in MJK's sheets
