Pet peeves...poorly conceived shorthand and improper acronyms that drive you crazy.

Yeah, "Trafo" Hate that one. Transfo I like. =)

But here is my Pet Peeve:

KGB, CIA, FBI, WPA, ATM, ABS, PSU, SET, DHT, BBC, RCA, BNC, XLR, etc. are NOT acronyms!!
They are abbreviations. Sometimes called "Initialism."

NASA, PIN, LASAR, RADAR, NATO, VIN, FUBAR, SNAFU, SETI.

Those are acronyms. See the difference?

And then there's B.B. King.

Here is one of my alltime faves. HVAC . If you are into electrical power you already know that this means High Voltage Alternating Current . Some conspiracy however stole the acronym, where have I heard this happen before?, and uses it industrially to mean, well you know, and also who the villians are!

So how about HVDC ? Why didn`t that same group steal and corrupt this one too? I mean it works perfectly so why not steal it? Heating Ventilating and Duct Cleaning .
