I was once talking with a ol' timer and he claimed that Lilienfeld actually actually had a working field effect device - But that Edison was still around and his business influences strong armed Amrad to abandon the research in this area as he found it a threat to vacuum tubes. Seems Edison was making lots of money off tubes.

Anybody hear something similar?
