Why does it take up to 5 hours to vote with electronics? Here in England, I have never waited more than a minute to vote manually.
I guess that most of us here will not wait a hour to vote, less five! |

It depends on where you are and when you vote. It's also a matter of the length of the line; 5 hours is exceptional, which is why it's news. Not everyone votes rapidly, and depending on the locality, there might be quite a few things to vote on. For example, in my district, we're voting on US President, Senator, Congressman, Assemblyman, and fifteen ballot initiatives. That's 18 votes per person.

As SY mentioned, it depends on your area. I haven't voted yet, (I'm voting after work) but anticipate it taking some time. Why? Because my area (NE Ohio) has had problems with voter registration fraud and everyone is heavily scrutinizing people coming in to vote. Not to mention the high voter turn-out expected.
In the past it has taken me about 5 to 10 minutes in the booth itself to actually vote, as I actually read what's written on the ballot, and make my decisions. Now, if everyone does that, that adds up quickly. I certainly hope I don't have to wait 5 hours to vote! |

I voted at 8:00 a.m. -- I would say that the turnout here in the People's Republic of NJ was "very heavy".

I voted 2 weeks ago here in Colo. No line and we get a little booklet in the mail with a discription of everything we vote on. So if you study it takes no time at all.
I hope my vote counted thats all. Serosmaness |

just heard on the radio in NYC -- several voting machines in Philadelphia have already been "impounded" since there were already thousands of votes on the machines before voting was open -- here it goes !!!

16 minutes.
The reality is that we can get our measurement accuracy down to 1-2% or so. When elections are closer than that, that's when the lawyers and political activists step in to muddy up the waters.
