This will uninstall Windows Media Player 9 from your ME machine and perform a rollback to the previous version of Media Player which is much smaller:
Close all open programs
Make a system restore point.
In the Run dialog box type:
Rundll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection c:\windows\inf\wmp.inf,Uninstall
(Copy and paste the above line)
Click yes at the usual warnings.
Restart your computer.
If all is well WMP9 is gone.
If not go to system restore.

Default Slimming aid.....

Have a look at LitePC Technologies
I used a demo version some time ago to "bone down" W98 for VM use.
No guarantees, but it just might do the job.

Hmm... nice program, it's new to me.
The nicest part is that it can remove many more things than the standard windows uninstall can and that it keeps track of what exactly is removed, the opposite of the normal uninstaller files who log what is installed.
Basically, I guess it’s a GUI full of little scripts like the one I posted earlier together with a log system to keep track of everything.
Unfortunately, the WMP9 can not be removed with the demo version.
