Just thought I would post this,
I have never had a problem like this until a recent windows update,
I could not log on to some web sites. I tried resetting passwords and still I could not log on.
In reality what was happening is the log on was not changing to log out this would not show in internet explorer.
NB Edcor was one of the sites this was happening on!
So I used Puppy Linux..and yes I can log on no problem.
After playing about with security settings for ages..
This was the problem.
Fix site display problems with Compatibility View - Microsoft Windows Help
Once set for a site it remains set.🙄
Yes I already know about compatibility view...Yes it was as simple as clicking the compatibility view icon in the URL. However I have never had this on so many sites since this update. When only the log on was effected.😕
NB apparently if you delete your browser history it turns off compatibility view and you are back to the same problem it doesn't remember the sites..

I like IE 😀
Further to Greggs problems, here is "another little something" that's worth trying when you have strange behaviour on a site. Flush the DNS cache.
I have Bing as a tab (one of three, email, Bing and Google) that open with IE10 (W7x64)and Bing is always a problem. The bar that opens at the top to inform you of cookie policy should only show once and when you close it should be remembered until you clear your browser history. Mine would be OK for a few days/weeks and then suddenly you can't get rid of the darned thing. Now I have a cookie file that I import each time I do a browser clean that saves having to enter log in info again for all my sites. Another issue was "Outlook" as selected from the Bing home page. It would take anything up to a minute to open and more often than not it wouldn't open at all.
A clear out of the DNS cache has apparently fixed all this and its easy to do. Just type cmd.exe into start/run box and run as admin (right click cmd.exe)
Then type the following and press enter after each,
ipconfig /flushdns
net stop dnscache
net start dnscache
Its fixed my Bing issue without me having to make a new cookie file and Outlook access is now instant. No other sites were affected by this.
Edit Gregg... have you tried exporting a cookie file after you have set your compatibility preferences and then next time you do a browser clean just import the file.

Sorry just noticed your post, no I haven't tried importing the cookie file. Something to look at perhaps. 🙂

No problem 🙂
You can't beat a cookie file. What I do is perform a full browser clean up, that means checking every possible option to delete all files possible. I then go to every site in turn that are in my favourites and enter the log in details as normal. You can also set options in many sites, for example a weather site might let you set favourite locations. I do all that. If its a web based email page and there are a few clicks to get to the page you always use then do that to and store that final location in your favourites (if you want).
When you've visited every site you regularly use and logged on etc then export and store your cookie file. Don't visit any other sites from cleaning the browser to exporting the file or you'll end up with other unwanted random cookies.
Then your good to go and the next time you do a full clean you just import the cookies (takes literally seconds) and your back to where you were, all sites you set up will have your login data ready to go and any site options that you set as well such as your favourite weather locations etc.

I.E. doesn't let you edit cookies?
That is something I have wondered over and whether you can paste a new cookie into the file or not. Although its "only" a .txt file, its full of seemingly random and weird names that must relate to the sites concerned. I suppose you would have to set the new cookie up in a clean browser so as to pick it out. Guess deleting an individual cookie is out of the question.
But I do really (really really) like IE 😛
