Tsk, of course there's a difference, would be easily measurable too - what I'm talking about is the subjective impact: does it strike you as being realistic or not. At a simple level, have a couple of people talking in a room - then add to the mix the playback of another person talking, at the same measurable SPLs as everyone else. On normal audio the odd voice will stick out like a sore thumb, it will obviously be "fake" - convincing audio means that someone not knowing what's going on who walks into the room will say, where's the other person talking I can hear? Is he just around the corner or something? So then no difference between hi-fi and real ..? Franky is back ..... 🙂
That's the goal - you can't pick the difference, using your ears ...
Recorded music can only sound like recorded music Franky , best we can hope for is input and output match .....

But how do you know what the input "sounds like", apart from listening to some "output" ... oh dear, dog's chasing its tail, again ...
"Best" we can hope for is that the impact, intensity, the drive, energy and drama, the visceral kick of the real thing is conveyed - IME that can be done if sufficient effort is put into refining the mechanism doing the job ...
The last thing I think about when listening to optimum playback of a recording is "Gee, I'm just listening to a recording ..." 😀

everyone i have ever spoken to hear a difference,
Even JC has accounts of people that hear nothing.
Ahhh, Let me , SY, Jn, Scott ........
You can even set up to Werner Klemperer's recordings. Bob Crane OTOH... Scott Crane had a web site dedicated to his father's excesses but it has disappeared.
"I hear nothing"

I just talked to Jack over the phone and I told him about JN's criticism of the AMES measurement. We both laughed.
That's what I do every time I see this.
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
Thanks for the input, Dan. I hope to do my own measurements soon, and I know that they will not be just a noise test.
"Soon" as in maybe this year? Try pushing that switch labeled "on/off" and read that manual.

My comments are about the new units ....
Enough to know that Bybee's make no audible difference, and are therefore a scam.
I could hear a difference in my system. At the end of the day, however, I can't say it stepped the playback quality up, or down. It's just different.
I won't be buying more, but I don't regret using my set in DACs,power supply lines, crossovers, interconnects , and line level filters to know for myself, firsthand.
There's a malaise in general today, which I read from Isaac Asimov 35 years ago, reflected in a person's research consisting of reading other people's research, and weighing their opinions against one another.
Could I have spent my cash better?
Of course! But I wouldn't know it for sure without first ear experience.
All this Bybee stuff reminds me of Richard Feynman's rationale for doubting UFOs.

Actually, literature review is a time-honoured research mechanism...

Absolutely truthy.
But it's not the only tool in the box.
What does that have to do with hearing a difference, he said he heard a difference, everyone i have ever spoken to hear a difference, so it's obviously doing something. If JC, SY, Scott and Bybee cant explain , then enjoy.
I'm sure you can enjoy a drink without knowing it's chem trail ... 🙂
That is no proof, do you believe everyone who claims to have been probed by alien kidnappers.

That's pretty much your standard of reply, no proof, no real measurements just jovially laughing at the fools.....
You are helping perpetuating a scam, have you no shame.

Excellent!

So you are comparing what someone hears thru their stereo to alien probing , ahhh, yeah ....

I would say at this point that the Bybee may be an alien probing device, hence the mystery surrounding it, the secret nature of its origins and now I believe its power over test and measurement equipment, where it goes into stealth mode and morphs into a low value resistor.
This would also account for the lingering odour of BS that does seam to permeate any information regarding theses marvellous devices.

Whassamatter? Tape learning of a Beeman spectrograph not enough for you??There's a malaise in general today, which I read from Isaac Asimov 35 years ago, reflected in a person's research consisting of reading other people's research, and weighing their opinions against one another.

(makes one wonder how well it would sell, were it to be marketed as such)
