A twist on previous puzzle.

A man is traveling with a fox and two chickens, if he leaves the fox alone with the chickens the fox will eat the chickens. He comes to a river and needs to cross it, he finds a small boat that can carry only him and one animal, how does he get himself, the fox and two chickens across the river safely?

Regards
M. Gregg

A rooster lays an egg at the very top of a slanted roof.

Which side of the roof will the egg roll off?

It will stay right on top with the rooster. Unlike hens, roosters lay square eggs

Fox and two chickens:

Start at side A
Take fox to side B
return to A empty
Pick up chicken#1, take to B, swap chicken for fox
Take fox back to A, swap for chicken#2
Take chicken#2 to B, drop off
Return empty, pick up fox, take to B

  1. Fox across - leaves it.
  2. Chicken 1 across, leaves it, returns with fox
  3. Leaves fox, takes Chicken 2 across
  4. returns empty
  5. Brings fox across.

Then goes looking for egg laying rooster.

Oops! Was crossing the river while Cal was posting!

You have two buckets - one holds exactly 5 gallons and the other 3 gallons. How can you measure 4 gallons of water into the 5 gallon bucket?

You have infinite water and no markings on the buckets..
