I believe it possibly some Indian thing.

I agree with the gentleman from Canada. Rather Zen though.

I saw a street performer dressed as Charlie Chaplin do something very similar with walking sticks in Vegas a good few years ago, so I suspect it's a long standing circus act. The Asian style performance is a nice theatrical touch though.

Especially if it is considered that:

If nothing else, this is a performing arts, in any case.

I believe the balancing act could be put into a broader category of juggling (like plate spinning), but equilibristics seems to be the most precise term for this performance art.
