niiice, yes, salmon isn't really meant to be cooked, just enjoyed if its fresh.

and like beer, at the right temperature, I prefer mine luke warm or room temperature.

Then why bother smoking it? Just eat it raw.

Just had a delightful dinner at an Ethiopian restaurant in Portland, OR (spent the last couple of days in Beaverton). Guy I was with had never had it before, was delighted. I had to show him how to eat with the injera.

Lsst night I had on of my favorate "comfort" foods............
patato pierogies with plenty of sauteed/caramelized onions and butter.

However, I actually do not use butter anymore but, use a butter substitue instead .

Kinda expensive to do that you know....

It would be ideal but for 1 kg of cheap non-sushi grade australian salmon its $30

Poor you, tomorrow I'm getting a whole salmon (3.5-4kg clean fillet) for the holidays at a wholesale center, AUS$12/kg

Smoking it myself, superior to whatever that comes in vacuumed plastic.
Really easy actually, just takes a lot of time, No1 practical issue is the size of the smoking oven.
Building a cold smoker yourself is one option, but nowadays 100 bucks already buys a decent one in stainless.
For model and price examples : outsidestore (e.g. the Bota model)
