Default Audiophiles, a different perspective

audiophiles

Some say its a nasty word

But is that the real story ?
What is there to know ?
Are there stories to tell ?
If not fore the work of those, would we even be here today ?

The same goes for Consultant. Used to mean something everyone looked up to. Heck not too many decades ago so did Stewardess

Ahh, yes I do take for granted that audiophiles may not be what they used to be, sure

Wiki: from Latin audio "I hear" and Greek philos "loving,"
I like the etymology but sadly the word has been spoiled by the rich and neurotic.

I'll tell you mine. If someone calls me that I'd feel offended and probably would reply: I'm not a member of that snobbish club. I like to hang out with musicians.

Ok
Im just trying to understand why that is
Why so many members think that way

To me audiophile describes a front runner in audio/hifi, a dedicated and creative inventor
Not that the word have been on my mind that much, until now
HIFI have always been my nasty word
I like AUDIO better
But others hate that too

Its very confusing, with such emotional reactions

But whatever, those you mention have never been worthy of the"title" you give them

When I was younger and single, I used to spend horrendous amounts of dollars on equipment searching for that most accurate sound, and I guess I thought that I had to buy high end gear to be considered an “audiophile”
These days I still have the same love of recorded music (in whatever medium) but gain more enjoyment building my own equipment, I guess I’m still an “audiophile”?

An audiophile a creative inventor? That sounds odd to me. A romantic view, an idealized image that has nothing to do with reality. Some creativity is necessary to enjoy recorded music but you're not inventing anything, either you are born with it or you're not.

A creative inventor could be an audio engineer or an audio salesman.

I didn't give them anything, they have taken it for themselves.

I don't have a problem with it.

Actions determine more than labels...

Ahh, you mean like wannabees trying to get into the exclusive club, by presenting cheap tricks
Yeah, that makes sense, and tells how it went so wrong, sure

But that doesnt change the fact that there are, or have been, real genuine audiophiles who have had the power to change our perception of sound, in a positive sense

The false ones have as you say done the opposite, and pushed audio in the wrong direction
And its true, if they have strong commercial interests, they will have powers too
But thats only natural, and how the world works

But it seems impossible to deny the fact that the better of them have had positive influence
Those I call the true genuine audiophiles, the real thing
