Well... not exactly undreamed of SY. I saw online gaming in 1974 (tank) and was ordering groceries online in the 80s. But yes, for most folks those were still unimagined.

I am another who thinks that the world is a much better place than it used to be. Sure, there are some things that were better in the old days, but not many. Access to information is just one shining example of how much things have gotten better. Less pollution and less litter are two I notice all the time.

As for the old land line, I was so nostalgic for it that I got one last April. Yeah, easy to use and sounded good, but Oh, the hassles! Constant sales calls, wrong numbers, high phone bills, junk mail, etc. Finally dropped it and went to VoIP. Less expensive, free long distance to 60 countries and sounds almost as good. And no junk calls. Doubt I'll ever go back.

I would admit it would be better if we could avoid learning things the hardest and most expensive way through our mistakes.. (Maybe a little more thought is required.)
Nah, just keep the fire extinguisher handy

Nice to see people discussing things like this.

I have a lot of these conversations with myself, I usually lose. At least in terms of how likely things are to pull through in a good way. True, there's a little less violence, and some people get their food, but there's still so much wrong.
