Default who wants to help me fix my blender?

hey ya'll

my cuisinart blender has bitten the dust. the blade was wedged when it was turned on and thus "burnt out".

the unit powers up. the switches light up as expected which leads me to believe the relay has burnt out.

here's a picture of it.

anyone know if my logic is sound that it is indeed the relay? i saw nothing that looks like a fuse anywhere.

i know nothing of relays. anyone know of a pin for pin replacement for this baby?

i googled rpcf-24-p and searched mouser but found nothing.

Perhaps the motor itself is burned out - universal motors don't like to stall.
Do you know how to test the motor?

i assume i can just hook it up to 110v?

i have a 12v lead acid battery sitting on my work bench. maybe that's a place to start.

You could try it on the 12V battery, assuming it's fully charged it should run the motor (though not at full speed). If you are comfortable trying with 110VAC that would be a better way. If it runs, there is some other problem, like that relay.
BTW, you pic doesn't expand, it's rather small.

Its not that likely that the relay would be the part that would fail if the motor jammed. Its much more likely to be the motor itself burnt out, or whatever regulates the motor power. Relays have such low resistance that even if alot of current flow through them they rarely fail. So I would check to see if the motot is open circuit.

Can you tell if its an AC or DC motor?

If it is AC then applying 12v DC will not make it move at all.

If it is DC then it is most likely the rectifier or power regulator that have failed.

The component with the heat sink on it in the top right of you photo looks like a good candidate as it looks like it may have overheated. Its quite difficult to tell from the photo you may be able to judge better with PCB in front of you.

Regards,
Andrew

A universal motor will run on AC or DC and it's this type of motor that is in most small appliances. A 12 volt battery may not have enough voltage to run it but worth a try.

The device with the heatsink looks like it has had something spilled on it, as it appears all over the circuit board in that area.

Go to Bed and Bath and get a hand-grater...it will save you the psychic energy.

The only thing a Cuisinart is good for is making buttercream icing, baby food, beef ragu, duck ragu, rabbit ragu...come to think of it, there are a lot things it's good for
