A Pro can be a DIYer but not necessarily the other way round. But a DIYer , given time and practical experience , could become a Pro.
In small companies the 'Pro' gets to do most of the jobs. Circuit design, prototyping , testing, cabinet design , sourcing etc. He could be a DIYer who has gone commercial or just a Pro doing everthing 'his/her' way. In large companies lots of jobs are relegated to different groups of people . Each person is probably called a Pro in what he is doing but he never gets to do everything the way he/she would like to do it . Such a person will be a DIYer at home ! So in some cases there is no difference between a Pro and a DIYer. DIYers making fantastic products are in fact Pros making one off jobs for themselves ( or others?). Thus the dividing line between them can be very hazy.

A pro should be making money from the work, yes? A DIYer is most likely not making money - in my mind, that is the distinction. Both could have the same level of training and experience but the pro uses it it in his day to day living, while the DIYer has a (maybe completely unrelated) source of income.

Oh...Oh..! "......A pro should be making money from the work, yes?....."
How could I miss out that one ! Yes of course , that would be the first most significant difference. That " should be making money " section is interesting by itself !
