Default What was the First Live Band you Heard

The "First Movie" thread started my nostalgic musing about the first band I'd heard live.

My friends & I (all male) every Saturday, went to a dance, usually hosted in the local school hall or football club hall. They always had a live Irish band playing & one of the ones that will have a name you can recognise:

Skid Row (The name was later sold to an American band) - who featured a young Gary Moore & sometimes Phil Lynott, drummer Noel Bridgeman (now backing Van Morrison?), Brush Shields on bass guitar ( he taught Phil Lynott to play bass).

Later in the '80s I heard U2 playing their seminal gigs in a kind of stalls shopping market but never thought much of them so I didn't bother paying the 50 pence cover charge to see them. Bono was just as cringe making then as he is now!

Metallica at Roskilde Festival 1986. Now I'm not completely sure that was indeed the very first live band I ever heard but it was the first one I ever payed to see.

I'm embarrased to say it was 1977 and Motorhead in an old tram depot in Leeds called the Queens Hall. The sound was exactly what you would expect from Motorhead playing in a tram depot.

It's a carpark now and sounds a lot better.

First "band" I remember was Nitty-Gritty Dirt Band, circa 1969. Had been to many a local classical and folk concert before that.

First movie I remember going to see was Georgy Girl.

At 13 years old a friends mom took us to see "genesis".

As I learned a little about music (about 3 years later), I got to see "Ned's Atomic Dustbin"
