I've been growing some habero peppers recently, and am going to feed them to my band today as a kind of challlenge. Any suggestions on how to kill the resulting heat?

crackers. They will soak up and neutralize the oils. Standard crackers, the kind you get with your soup at the restaurant.

The "heat" is caused by an alkaloid compound called capsaicin.
The burning can be relieved by something acidic like lemon juice that will help neutralize the alkalinity of the capsaicin, or by a fatty dairy product. The fat in the dairy product mixes well with the oily capsaicin and helps to get it away from the pain receptors on the tongue and in the mouth.

Have nothing available for mitigation. MUCH funnier that way. It's like locking up the toilet at a beer party.

Think I'll go with your suggestion, SY. I'll let them suffer
Might keep a few crackers or something in my pocket, though, for personal relief...

Typical way to moderate heat in Indian dishes is with yogurt or sour cream. Will work for peppers too
Cheers! |

I got the band to eat the habaneros. Unfortunately they demanded milk and bread beforehand, but the results were still hilarious. Next I've got to get ahold of some Naga Jolokias... 1 million scovilles here I come!

Funny thread, and not what I expected on a diy audio site.
Not the very hottest peppers you'll ever find, but certainly the most tasty IMHO. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotch_bonnet_(pepper) If ya' wanna' have more fun with the band, treat them to jellybeans. http://www.mohotta.com/product/1274/3 Mohotta used to have habanero lollipops, but I couldn't find them on the site..... |

I gotta know the motivation for this is. Do you not like your band members? Did they play out of key or stay up past their curfew or something?
You don't play nice. Yes, there are peppers hotter than than the Habanero/Scotch Bonnets but jeepers man, you have a mean streak. |

Did the guitarist show up to a very important gig interview meeting with a TAB book under his arm?
