My mom used to make something similar, but unfortunately googling for belashi turns up no useful leads. (I'm wondering if it is a local LA culinary creation? Even Russian food sites don't know what this is??) The meat is inside a sort of pastry, and sometimes I think the meat has bread and spices mixed into it kind of like a fancy meatloaf.
