Default The Superjump

Michel is 64 and has prepared his jump for more than 20 years.
Today is launching day: http://www.thesuperjump.org/

All went well until a few minutes ago the balloon has taken off without the cabin.

This is unfortunate. First the ballon tear, then started w/o the cabin... Do they even plan to finish this thing or not?

I mean - the first attempt was in 2003, then 2008 - that it 5 years. In next five years the guy will be a bit too old

I also wonder how human body can withstand supersonic speeds w/o being supported by titanium and steel airframe. The turbulent vibrations might be too much to take for the poor guy and on the Earth it very well might just rain a pieces of him.
Let's hope not, but still... neverless one gotta try it. Go go go!

There's a nice little clip on his website, explaining exactly what happened.

That's a good question. Kittinger reached a velocity in excess of 600mph during his record jump. I don't know how close he was to Mach 1 at that altitude. There is a picture of Kittinger jumping out of the balloon at 102,000ft that will make your nuts go up in your stomach just looking at it.
