Default Angry at my Sawzall - and the company that built it..

I've had a Milwaukee Super Sawzall -AC powered- for about 10 years. I'm not a contractor but I get good use of my tools. Yesterday the blade stopped moving. Today, being a DIY type of guy, I took it apart figuring it was a stripped gear or something. I was right on - stripped gear.

So I went online to locate the part. In 5 minutes there it was on my screen. The problem is that...... IT'S A $74US GEAR!!!!!!

I'm guessing that this is common failure part that has its price jacked up to force a new purchase. It can't be more than 1 1/2 inches across for cripes sake.

Rant over - goodbye Milwaukee.....

So, how about cannibalizing something else?

They nail us on replacement parts

My genuine Weedeater costed a grand total of $80 CAD. I used it for a couple of seasons and the carb got gunked. No problem I thought, go get a carb kit. They wanted another $80 + $70 shipping via courier. The kit contained a couple of seals, a diapragm and needle valve with spring.

Guess what, made my own diaphragm from silicone greaseless heatsink material, made a needle from a brass rod and have a box of springs and seals. Cost nothing but a few hours and she's been working great ever since (that was three seasons ago)
