Lightbulb More lumens and Point Light source

How about using a large arc light then combining it with one of these to get a smaller arc. Would make the box a bit longer but has the advantage of a smaller point light source, you could also black out all the area around it to prevent excess heat transfer to the LCD.

Could it also be used with a pre-condenser lens....

Any thoughts?

On this link check out these. How about putting a few together with this at the end

List of companies making these

Also how about this as a reflector system?

Cool video of this reflector working, if we added one of those fiber optic tapers at the top, could gather alot of light!

I've often wondered the same thing about the two parabolic mirrors. Problem with the commercial units you linked to is that they are plastic instead of steel, where heat would be a major issue. Also, the size of these would not accomodate something as large as a single ended bulb, but may help further concentrate a double ended one.

U can get the same type of parabolic mirrors in steel
I put up a few links here. Yeah, I thought the double ended 250w metal halide might work nicely...
I deffo think it's worth a bit of experimenting with (no time myself until the summer hols)

Interesting... the 12" diameter one from Edmunds has a 3" focal length. I wonder how 'deep' the dish is. Seems that perhaps two of those with a fiber optic collector of fairly large size, along with a condensor lens would do quite well-- assuming that I could space the focal length with two opposing reflectors. You would obviously have some light loss from the holes where the double ended bulb leaves the reflector, but I think it would be acceptable. I will see if I can source something locally to experiment with.
