In my quest to get the E39 mogul socket that is for the ushio retro HPS bulb, i learned alot.
First........ E40 is the technical size for standard Mogul Socket. but if you got to electrical supply. ( i went to the top 3 in Tallahassee, one was Hughes Electric which is a chain i think). they don't even know what E40 is, but it's not even their fault, on the box for the Screw in Mogul Socket, made by Leviton, it does not say E40. 2nd, a E39 Bulb will fit in a E40 Mogul socket but not vice-versa (a E40 bulb will not fit in an E39 socket) so i think the only difference is depth of the socket. so it's ok to use a standard mogul socket for the ushio. this is important, because from my experience, you may not find an E39 mogul socket, only the E40 locally. (which is just a standard screw-in mogul socket) oh, also price shop for the standard mogul socket, at Hughes Electric supply they wanted 13 dollars!! but at Rexell Southern they only cost 7 bucks. |
