Hi,
I have a 250w OHP and am looking to replace the light source. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best ballast and bulb for under $100 US and good for heat. Let me know if you have installed / tested the one you are recommending. Cheer, Tim |

the only ballast u can get from america that will work in australia (assuming ur from australia) are electronic ballasts whuch r epensive.
u can buy a 90 doller 400w MH ballast from australia (www.hydroshop.com.au) the ones they sell r non electornic ballast in a box, u can open the metal box and take it out. now the problem is, lamps in australia arnt them small ones america sells, unforuanntly trying to import one from america woulnt be possible as there lamps r rated 120v, and australia is 240v |

If you go for a straight conversion to a 250w HQI metal halide lamp, and you can position it with the same reflector (probably only possible if you get the ones without protective outer jackets), you'll get 3-4 times the light with about the same amount of heat.

Italy sucks for optics but not for the light source of my project(s). I've bought and installed 2 MH kits from my local illumination store:
Osram Powerstar HQI 400w/D (5200K, CRI = 93, 36000 lumens) for 75 Euro. Ballast and starter very similar to this (serigraphy on them in italian so I assume they are produced locally): LINK ballast+starter only 26 euro. FC2 base: 11 euro I raccomend this kit cause it provides a very bright and wonderful light. Heat is less than you might think. Very happy with my choice. |
