mercury vapor???? hmmm

dont get mad at me right away. i know mercury vapor isnt what we should use for this project, but hear me out.

i did a science fair project that i tested 3 different types of hid lighting.

i put metal halide, mercury vapor, and high pressure sodium

well i didnt really test all of these out so thats a problem,.

i won the science fair but now i really got to test these out for regionals.

i know that high pressure sodium will produce a light that is real orange, but will mercury vapor really be all that bad.

im going to try it out on friday and i will tell you guys my results

That depends on what its for, is this for a projector?

Whats the colour temp of the bulb?

Generally MV puts out a blueish light with a colour temp of 8000k. When somthing is blue its generally blue lol.

yeah this is for a projector.

ok so if it would put out a blue light couldnt i just go to the rgb setting on the computer and lower the blue

im just going to go to home depot and buy the bulb, so i really dont know the specs of it

Yeah that idea wont work because all of your reds and greens are going to be the wrong shade to the colour filters, the same for the blue. You need a bulb that puts out anything from 5000k to 5800k or you wont have acurate results.

well than why couldnt i turn up the values on the red and and green, and turn down the value for blue


OK so for hps. i put that is puts out a orange and everything looks messed up.

it worked but the picture was too blue to suffice

Because the red and green filters arent red and green becuase you dont have white light going through them. The shades of the colours that come from the filters change with the blue light.

oh yeah and how blue is the light, i thought it was just a light blue

It is a light blue but enough to change the colour of the lcds colour filters. If you had a hps or a halogen bulb and compared it to a 5100k mh bulb you would clearly see the diff and what im on about.

Changing the gain on the red, green and blue wont do much at all, because they are the wrong shade of the colours to begin with. They are only the right shade of colour when you have the correct colour temp light going through them.
