Default how many volts an HQI lamp need?

Hi,
i don't have any HQI set yet but i'd like to know before buy.. for what i understand an HQI lamp needs something like a 'start' signal to work.. well i'd like to know how many volts are required to make this thing work?
I'm asking this because one friend told me that to power up a UHP lamp i would need a 365v DC stabilized power supply so i'd like to know how is with an HQI lamp because 365 seems so many volts for me
Thanks
