Finally heard from the manufacurer. their price is half of the retailers (about $18-20, depanding how much shipping will cost). I am going to get a reflector to do some tests. If anyone is interested please contact me at liu DOT 316 AT osu DOT edu.
by the way, which one of following is better to get? I am going to try it on a CDM-T lamp, which is 19mm in diameter. I guess I can enlarge the center hole of T090 reflector to make it 1 mm bigger. HB1220-T080 D = 80mm d = 22mm H = 35mm F1 = 15mm F2 = 120mm HB1220-T090 D = 90mm d = 18mm H = 53mm F1 = 14mm F2 = 165mm for benefits of ellipsoidal reflector and CDM-T lamps, please see Ace's posts. |

First of all, these are glass, so it may be difficult to enlarge the hole! You will have to use a grinding tool that works on glass, with special attention to controlling the dust (ie. not breathing it or getting it on your cloths or skin). I will be interested to know how it goes. (ie. How many you break!) I suggest you think about the very small short-arc single-ended bulbs that Ace is looking at.
Which is best, depends on your condensor fresnel focal length and diagonal size. Make a full-scale drawing of the reflector and your fresnel spaced so the fresnel's focal point is at the reflector's F2 point. Do the rays of the cone from D1 to F2 diverge to fit your fresnel's total surface? If they don't cover it, then it won't work at all. (You could try a longer fl fresnel.) If they go way beyond your fresnel's surface, then you won't be getting as much of the light through the LCD as possible. (Try a shorter fl fresnel.) |

T090 is not available right now. but there is another model I think would better suit our goal. The specs are:
TF97: D = 97mm d = 22mm H = 49mm F1 = 17mm F2 = 145mm the price is a few $ higher due to different method making the glass body. I will have to ask a friend in Beijing to buy them for me and then mail to US. thanks the fellow DIYer for directing me to the 97mm reflector. Now we need some good CDM-T deals for US. the cheapest one I came across is $37 + shipping. on ebay.de or .uk you can get it as low as 10 euro from time to time. why we are always paying more for less? |

That 97mm looks to be identical to the Edmunds NT54-085. Nice!

The T90 isnt the best choice imo. Go either the T97 or the T80. Trev
