Default Sharp QA 1800 - fan not working

Hello, I've just dived into the projection panel/OHP "dimension", fortified by the great information I've found perusing these boards for the last few weeks.
I won an auction for a QA1800 w/remote on ebay ($185 w/shipping) and it appears to be in very good shape- no scratches, played a dvd via composite connection, haven't got a signal yet from a MacBook via vga cable but from what I've read, that may be normal (it didn't come w/Sharp-specific vga cable). The problem at present is that I see no indication that the fan is working. Is this a "deal breaker" or a relatively easy fix? Should the fan come on as soon as the unit is turned on? Thanks for any advice/insight. BTW, I paid $300 for a 3M 9800 OHP - 6000 Lumens that I'm waiting to "marry" to this, or a similar panel. Thanks, Howard.

I have never used a Sharp panel , but I have taken a couple proximas apart and the fan looked like a standard computer fan. The proxima would have been easy to replace. Take the Sharp apart and get the numbers off of the fan and check to see if it is straight wired or plugs into a board.

If there is a fan inside the module, then it should possibly work at the instant the power is on. Fans fail quite rare although.
Even operation of this device without fan does not seem to be so critical (lesser heat emmision)...
