CMV 1515 in Disguise? I can't tell...

I just got back from CC and they had the stats posted for the A150X1. mhelin was right, 300:1, 30ms. I had got myself all psyched up to get it until I saw that.

I would have to say that it looked better than all the other lcds that they had on. Brightness was great, color quality was very good after a little tweaking. I tried to adjust some of the other monitors, but it did not make as much difference. When I stood far back and looked at the whole display, the A150X1 stood out from all the others in brightness, which made the coloration look much better. It had the best viewing angles too, with very little change in quality from right in front to way off on the periphery. Video playback on it left a little to be desired, but it was still decent. I decided not to get it and to think about it for a night. I had ordered a BenQ 567S, new for $350 with shipping, which seemed a little steep, but then saw the $60 rebate offer at CC was on again, so I cancelled the order and went to check it out. Without the BenQ to try out, I am not sure if the extra $$ it would cost is worth it. I guess for $100 less, I can live with the NEG.

Regarding the 15" and 17" LiquidVideo LCD monitor sold by Circuit City. I believe the source to be Chi Mei Corporation. The Chi Mei Model CT-722 is also identified as Model A170E1, the same designation found on the LiquidVideo 17". Has anyone confirmed what the CR on this thing is? the CC one?

It seems that it is on sale again for a total of $240 after rebates. The offer ends tonight. if anything, I might go buy it, take it apart and see how nice it is...

if I dont like it, I'll put it back together and give it back to 'em ;-)

I actually just bought the LCD from CC.

Ihave completely disassembled it without breaking anything :-D

One thing that is amazing is how clear it is. When I first took apart the NEC 1545v, I turned it on, and looked through it... with a 100w light bulb, I could barely see a small part of the screen. With this thing, I put a rechargable flashlight behind it at a 90deg angle... not even pointing directly at it... pointing from the side, and I can see every single pixel. even with ambient lighting, as long as there is nothing underneath it, I can see the entire picture with no light behind it.

This shows 2 things:
light doesn't need to be so polarized like my 1545... this means a trapaoid light contraption will help alot! doesn't matter which angle the light comes in, its comming out!
Also, it is so much more transparent, I am willing to bet I will see at least 2x more light on my screen... if not more. I cant wait to get it mounted and in my PJ! Maybe I should start thinking light engine...

Just thought that I would encourage everyone to get this LCD, its a great buy. I am not too sure what the contrast ratio is, but it is much better than my 1545v, and that is either 250:1 or 300:1, either way, I find it hard to believe that this thing is only 300:1.

i am almoast glad that I toasted the connectors on my NEC, this guy is amzing, and can't wait to see it in action!

if it's a cmv 1515 the cr is 450:1 , on a 1512 it's 400:1

Its a 1512.

I just wanted to note that the whites were much clearer than the whites on my old LCD. I am not sure how dark the blacks are, because I can not really tell by using a flash light.

thanks for the info VvvvV! I could never find that information.... It seemed everyone thought it was either 300:1 or 500:1 or even 550:1.

all the vendor specs for the 1515 are 500:1 or 450:1 depedning on the website, i think someone here possibly talking about the polyview mentioned the 1512 is 400:1 as opposed to 450 for the 1515.


someone described a trick for dissassembling the 1515 where you can somehow dextrously flip the flex cable around one of the edges making the the controller boards at good angles to the lcd panel... i dunno for sure how they did it.

sounds like a really really good quality panel there man, hope that i can obtain one like this sometime.

Does anyone know of any place to get a CMV1512 or CMV1515 now? Circuit City no longer has their imitation 1512, and all the places online that used to sell them for good prices no longer have them. The only places I've found online that sell them are $450+! A year or two ago you could get the 1515 for $225 shipped. Now its impossible to find and the prices have doubled. There has got to be a place to get this monitor for a reasonable price. Also, if anyone has one they are willing to sell, could ya send me an e-mail?

Most if not all of the 1512's out in the uS are the white label (300:1 / 16-bit). The LiquidVideo included.
