Wow, very cool. I was waiting to see that NEC - does look rather dim though (both 15's) Hard to tell just by the pics how good/bad it is. Good to hear dissassembly wasn't too bad. I'm still struggling with the flex cables on my 152T - but I'm making progress. So you say the colours are the best on the CC1512 out of the four? Definately not bad for the price, my 152T was 440CAD after tax etc.

However the specs mystery still seems to be present

Fine job 18Wheeler...very nice! I would be on my over to Circuit City now except for the 9" of snow outside! When I do get out I'm going to buy one... the price is right, the image looks good.

I don't know how well I'll handle the strip down since I am the only man alive with 10 thumbs. No....really...don't laugh... I have documentation...10 thumbs!

When you said "a little tricky" I got scared. I'm using an enclosure, so I'll be able to use this LCD. I'm still a bit in-love with the BenQ 567s... it has 400:1 contrast ratio. Maybe the snow is a good thing...give me time to clear my head....hmmm.

I was thinking about your question whether you should keep it or not... well to me it looks good, stripped down relatively easy and the price is right. I would say keep it. I guess what really interested me was the contrast ratio. I seem to be hooked on the fact the hight the CR the better the image.

I really got some good info on your comparison shots, that was very helpful. If you find the CR is 300 or less... would you still want it?

Have you seen or have a BenQ 567s? How do you think it compares to that one? (self-serving question on my part). The best price I've found so far on the BenQ is $276 and that includes shipping. This one is $239 after rebate, even with a 5% sales tax I'll make out better price-wise. I do like that BenQ 567s though... what to do...what to do?

CMV1515 is better one if you have to keep the LCD in 90 degrees angle. If you use BenQ567s same way the light distribution is uneven and the contrast about 280:1. However, if you tilt the LCD about 12 degrees the contrast ratio of BenQ LCD will be 450:1 which is much better. Also with BenQ LCD you have to use split fresnel (two fresnels with the LCD in between).

Here are some pictures. They may help you to take the lcd apart

First you need to remove the base:
Click the image to open in full size.

use a flat screwdriver to pry out the cover. Then unscrew it.

Once you done that, you will see a single screw at the bottom. take it out and push the back cover upward. it should open. you may need that flat screw driver to loose it up.

Click the image to open in full size.

once back cover is off, you need to unscrew 4 screws which keep the front cover on; and the smaller screws that keep those side metal pieces. now those wires should be exposed.

Click the image to open in full size.

My camera's battery died after these shot. so:

after remove the metal piece on the top, there is another screw to keep the PCB board on frame. take it out.

unplug all the wires from the PCB board.

don't need try to remove the big gray metal piece. (I didn't realize that UNTIL spent an hour and removed it , I can tell you what inside: 3 U shape lamps in the light chamber)

turn the monitor over. There should be 4 screw at each corner. Now remove them and carefully remove the screen.

If you are going to use it on OHP, flip the lcd and put back to the original metal front bezel. dont forget to use a strip of tape to insulate the bezel.

I might skipped a couple of screws when I am telling the story. So whenever you cannot remove one of those pieces, stop and check if any screw is in the way. If you broke any piece during the process, put everything back together, walk back to CC and make sure you look totally innocent

Get some batteries :-) I'm buying this one tomorrow! I'm building an enclosure and it sounds like this will work for an enclosure as well as OHP. Thanks for your help in making my decision... well Ace also encourged me to get this one as well.

Default yep

that's a 1512 alright...grab it up kids, it's a good one.

Oh yeah 18 wheeler...you say it's darker, dumb question but did you check the brightness and contrast settings on the panel? They love to revert to their defaults for some reason....they should obviously be cranked all the way up.
