Default Greetings From Northern California!

Hello

My name is Art; I’m a resident here in Northern California just south of Sacramento and east of San Francisco. Although I am not new to audio I am new to this site. I have been into audio pretty much all my life some years more than others splitting my time with my other hobbies such as cars (Corvettes), photography, bicycling, and a whole lot of others.

I started interested in audio hobby in my early years of childhood as my grandfather started me off with in elementary school with a GE phonograph player. From there I moved up to Sony all in one system, you remember, turntable, receiver, tape deck, all in one. Then I went on to a Fisher unit when I was 16 years old. After graduating from high in 1979 at 18 years old is when I really got in to audio. In 1979 I bought my first component system, a complete system at that time I thought it was high-end. I started with a Kenwood KR-8050 receiver, a top of line Dual CS-731Q direct drive turntable with an Audio Technica cartridge, Teac cassette tape deck and a pair of large Advent speakers. At that time it was almost close to if I remembered correctly at $2,700. A few years later I updated the speakers to the Polk 10B’s and got into Digital with a Sony CDP302 CD player. Then from there after going to my first CES show in 1984 I had another major overhaul going into separates and got myself a B&K ST140 amp, MFA Magus preamp, a Linn LP12 Sondeck turntable with an Itok arm, a Monster Cable Alpha cartridge, Sony CDP707ES CD player and a pair of TDL speakers. I had that setup for a while then replaced the B&K ST140 amp with the Parasound HCA2200 and also replaced the MFA Magus preamp with a Klyne System Six and added a Magnum Dynalab FT-101A FM tuner. Had this for a while as then another overhaul again starting with an OCM500 amp, VMPS Tower II speakers, later on upgraded the Klyne System Six with a System Seven and replace the Sony 707ES CD player with a Cal Audio Labs Tercet IV CD player. From there I had my dream speaker built, all Dynaudio drivers which was built in 1996 is comprised of Dynaudio drivers 2-12” 30W100 for the woofers, 2-7” 17W75LQ mid bass woofers, 1 T330 Esotar for the tweeters in a Di'Apollito configuration in a cabinet built of HDF 1-1/2” thick completely around with a 3” front baffle and also 1-1/2” heavily internal bracing, 70”H, 24”D, 15”W, wrapped in Ebony weighing over 450 lbs. This is set up for bi-wired, the mid woofers and tweeter are on one set of Edison Price terminals and the woofers are on another separate set of Edison Price terminals. From there the current is carried through on two sets of Synergistic Research Phase II cables. After that I added my so what of a dream amp. At first I wanted the pair Krell KRS200’s but I figured I better stay more realistic and ended up with a Krell KSA300S. This has been my system the last 10 years and it’s about time for me to change a little now. At time I have been looking for a preowned Krell KRC-HR preamp on the used market to match my KSA300S and I am also looking for a Theta Miles for the CD player also on the used market as I’m pretty much done as far as getting to the peak where I am satisfied. I hope this will give you an idea of my back ground and if you have any questions feel free to contact me. Thank for you interest!

Don't look for a new preamp- build your own.

Yea, it would be nice to do one. But I don’t think I would have the know how like Krell does and plus the metal word as beautiful as theirs. I have always admired their products since they came out. But now it seems that their going a little towards the girly direction as some of their products are not as industrial looking as before such as the silver finish instead of the black and the rounded corners instead of the square. I think their catering a little more towards the soft side to please the women, in my opinion. Well any know of a KRC-HR available then let me know.

Cheers!

Preamps are like babies: the one you make yourself is the most beautiful one in the world.

That's not to say I haven't put together some butt-ugly prototypes, however.

Yup, we make with stuff here- that's the purpose of the forums. Perhaps some members could recommend some designs with links.. Various group buys have produced circuit boards, which makes it pretty easy to make something without much knowledge at all. There are some great cases that you can buy..

Any info on how your speaker crossovers?

I'll pull the data later and take a look. Basiclly the 2-7" & the Esotar tweeter acts as a full range which they are in their own enclosure, and the 2-12" acts more as a sub. But I'll see if I can find the specs and get back to you.

I have a better photo of the speaker here:

Cheers!

I'm still looking for the specs on the crossovers. I went through my folders in my files and I'm still trying to find them. Haven't seen them since they have been built, but I know I put it away somewhere. As soon as I find them I'll let you know.
