Hello! I stumbled on this forum when I was searching for anything in Google for an amp I built long ago.

I have only had a brief look but I'm very impressed!!! It's great to see such a nice community.

I built my Playmaster Series 200 amp when I was about 15 and it took me years to gather all the parts. I used to frequent a Dick Smith with my dad on weekends that had a room set up for BER and T2 stock about 18 years ago. BER (Beyond Economical Repair) and T2 was stock returns, discontinued, ex-display, damaged packing etc...

So one day I saw the Playmaster Series 200 kit but it was only short form (PCB and Chassis only), but I had to have it! 2x100W RMS of clean power. Then I had to get all the parts.

I loved my music from a young age and once this amp was built I bought a pair of Wharfdale satellites and sub and I loved the sound quality. The mosfets sound "different" to me and I like it.

I always played with electronics as a kid and dreamed of becoming an Electrical/Electronic Engineer, and thats what I did. I then got into IT and became an MCSE and A+ Tech, but I still love my electronics.

Anyways... glad to be a member here and look forward to spending some time reading/posting.

I am looking forward to some tech info on solid state amps.

I used to repair Gryphon amps about 10 years ago. Boy what a monster! 2 x 100W pure class A and it took 2 guys to get it on the bench!! I think the toroidal was about 2kw. It even came in a wooden crate.
From memory there was about 16 or 18 TO3 drivers per channel. These used to fail quite often but had the markings removed but our guess was they were a MJExxxxx part.
At about $35000, we still used to repair quite a lot of them.

Think that you are memory is failing you, Gryphon never removed markings from components. The output devises are Sanken and always has been. There are 20 per side. Maybe you think of another amp.
