First of all, would like to wish you all a happy New Year.
I've already been on these forums about a week, and posted a few times, as well as found some good info in the older threads. I live in Asheville NC, originally from NJ, but been all over, 6 years on the W. Coast (Calif & Oregon) too. I'm 52 and my dad (who passed away in '88) was in WW II and a radio man, became an engineer at Dumont TV, Kearfott, Fairchild, Norelco & Milgo. I got interested in electronics at an early age, my first project at about age 5 was trying to melt a penny by putting it between the 2 prongs of a plug and plugging it in. Seriously though, my dad had a lot of cool stuff in his den room, and I eventually got into that area of interest and got my ham license when I was 16, in 1970, and build a few tube rigs, worked code, etc. But those were the psychedelic days, I quickly lost interest and moved to CA, etc., totally dropped the subject. Of course, though, I was always a heavy audiophile especially in those days of prime rock. Finally by 1980, when I was back east and settled a bit, I got into construction as a sideline and did a lot of free-lance electrician work over the years. Also got into computers & programming (first studied it a bit in college in 1971-2), and has my own PC's starting way back around 1983 and ever since. Today, that's been my main hobby (besides photography, home improvment, and Zen/spiritual stuff I've also been into since the 70's). In the past few years, I've done a lot of experimenting on Linux platforms, including mulitmedia & desktop setups/tweaking, as well as written some apps in PHP and Python. Back in the old days, before I was married, I went to a lot of concerts, the good old stuff. I was never a musician but liked to fool around on instruments, I do know/have met some musicians, my cousin Mick Loher and Bill MacKechnie from the group Anubis Spire are among them. The past 4-5 months I've sort of come full circle in my old age, and began restoring old tube AM radios, work on getting my ham license again, and doing research/"refresh my memory" stuff in a lot of tech audio/radio areas. Am currently working on/planning a few small amp projects, and looking for new inexpensive project ideas & tech tips, hence my presence here... If you made it this far through my intro, thanks for having me, and though I may nt post a lot, if I do have something to say/ask or offer, I'll stop buy here, you all seem like a great group of knowledgeable folks..... So cheers.. and great to meet you all Frank F. |

Hello Frank and welcome to the forums. Yes, I read the entire introduction. Sounds like an interesting life. Even if you don't post much, do post your projects. We always like to share in the build.
